How We Became the "King of Dogs"

Pictured here is Harry, his Brother Andreas, and Andreas's son Dan.

Rudy's Hot Dog was established in Toledo in 1920 by Rudy Poturedes. He came to America from a little village in Cyprus called Kyrenia, and in 1920 was selling his hot dogs at a hot dog stand downtown Toledo, Ohio. He established his very first Rudy's Hot Dog restaurant in 1930, and it was originally downtown as well. He moved his two nephews here from Cyprus, Harry and Andreas Dionyssiou. They came to America to help him establish his business, and they are now the president and vice president of the six restaurants that are here in Toledo today.

The restaurant in this picture was built in 1971. a The day this restaurant opened, they sold 10,000 hot dogs that day alone. Harry and Andreas own this location. The business is traditionally family owned.

Rudy's hot dog sells 8,000 famous Rudy's chili dogs (with mustard, onions and chili sauce) a week!
